Burial & Interment Options

To meet a range of preferences, there are several plot types available at Akatārawa Cemetery for burials and ashes interments.

Memorial Garden

The Memorial Garden sits in a beautiful setting of established rose gardens. Ashes and plaques are placed around the edges of the gardens.

Plaque section

The plaque section is available for both burial and ashes interment. These simple, yet dignified memorials are becoming increasingly popular. Plaques are placed on a concrete berm, surrounded by lawns with the option for a flower receptacle. There is a specific area set aside for children's plots.

Memorial Tree section

The memorial tree section is available for the interment of ashes. Four plaques can be placed north, south, east, and west around the tree. There is provision to inter up to four sets of ashes per plaque.

Monumental section

The monumental section is available for both burial and ashes interment. Headstones are placed on a concrete berm, with a single, upright granite structure at the head of the grave. There is a specific area set aside for children's plots.

RSA sections

The RSA sections of the cemetery are for burials and ashes interment. These sections are available for service personnel eligible to be buried in the RSA section and their spouses or partners.

Scattering of ashes

Special designated areas are available for the scattering of ashes. Please contact Cemetery staff to discuss available options. Ashes are not to be scattered on top of graves or on any of the gardens.

If you have any questions about scattering ashes, please contact Cemetery staff to discuss your needs.

Cremations

Gee and Hickton own and manage the crematorium based at the Akatarawa Cemetery.  Please contact them on 04 528 2331 to discuss cremation options.
