You may have heard the Government talking about the future of drinking water, wastewater, and storm water - the Three Waters Reform.
The proposed reforms would move the management of those water assets out of the hands of the country's 67 councils, to four large water entities. More information is available on our Three Waters Reform page.
Upper Hutt City would be part of Entity C along with 22 other councils, from the east coast of the North Island, the Wellington region, and the top of the South Island.
The Government recently announced they are going ahead with the Three Waters Reform, although concern and opposition has been raised by councils from across the country.
Initially the Government said there would be a community engagement process, where local communities would be given the opportunity to express their views and provide feedback about the Three Waters Reform.
In the most recent announcement, the Minister for Local Government indicated there will not be a local community consultation process. Instead, communities/public will have an opportunity to provide feedback through the select committee process.
Upper Hutt City Councillors are keen to hear what you think about the Three Waters Reform, and the Government’s decision to mandate.
This is especially important now because of the lack of local engagement by the Government, and for our council to discuss further with the Government.
