On Tuesday Mayor Guppy,  Elected Members and our Project and Parks teams were on-site for the blessing of Maidstone Max, before it reopens to the public on Saturday.

It was a special occasion and culturally important too. Appropriate karakia were conducted at the commencement of this project so that the site could no longer be used for common use, this is referred to as being in a state of ‘tapu’.

And to mark the conclusion of the project, appropriate karakia were used to remove the ‘tapu’ or restrictions placed upon the site, therefore making the site ‘noa’ or free from restriction thereby allowing the site to be freely utilised without any restriction for common use.

There are just a few finishing touches to do and then it’ll be ready for you all to enjoy.

To celebrate the completion of the project, we’re having an event on Saturday from 10am – 12pm.

Hope to see you there.
