We’ve recently reviewed our Dangerous, Affected, and Insanitary Building Policy and would like your feedback on what we’re proposing.

The Building Act 2004 helps ensure people who use buildings can do so safely, without endangering their health and can escape from a building in the event of a fire. The Act requires each territorial authority to have a policy for dangerous, affected, and insanitary buildings, and to review that policy every five years to make sure it’s fit-for-purpose.

All buildings are required to meet the applicable standards when they are built but they may become dangerous and/or insanitary over time.

Incorporating new guidance issued through MBIE and renaming the policy requires us to reconsult with the public.

If you’d like to read more about this policy, the review we’ve carried out, our recommendations, and to make a submission, go to letskorero.upperhutt.govt.nz

Alternatively, submission forms are available at Council reception and Upper Hutt Central Library.

Submissions close on 27 October 2024.
