Community engagement - residents survey

Upper Hutt City is committed to working in partnership with communities and stakeholders in the development of its policies, plans, facilities, and services.

At Upper Hutt City we engage with our community in many ways in line with our Significance and Engagement Policy(PDF, 300KB)

The Significance and Engagement Policy enables Council to undertake consultation in a way that is appropriate for the matter being considered.  In some situations, consultation is as simple as listening to the views of a resident.  It may be more formal, such as when the special consultation procedure is used.  Or it may be more structured, such as when a particular group of people are requested to share their views.  An independent facilitator may also be used where necessary.

Council’s affairs are conducted in an open, informed and democratic manner and relevant information is readily available so that everyone can make an informed contribution to the decision-making process.

Make a submission on an open consultation

Feedback from the public is an important and essential part of our democratic process. Your input helps us understand how well we are doing and provides us with the direction and opportunity to make adjustments to our plans.

Residents' opinion survey

Every year, we survey a group of residents to seek feedback that helps measure, monitor, and report against our community outcomes and service performance.

Survey results communicate residents’ voices to key decision makers in Council who want to understand what improvements and other actions would be valued by residents. The collective voice will be used in decision making to further shape Upper Hutt City.

The survey is conducted by an independent market research provider. People who receive an invitation to take part in the survey have been selected at random from the Electoral Roll and all responses are confidential (responses are reported to Council as aggregated summaries with no reference to individuals).

Survey results are publicly reported annually, at our Finance and Performance Committee and in the Annual report. To read previous residents' opinion survey reports click on the links below:
