Te Haukāretu Park

Te Haukaretu Park is one of Upper Hutt’s popular neighbourhood parks. Close to Te Awa Kairangi - Hutt River, Harcourt Holiday Park, the Hutt River Trail, and Remutaka Cycle Trail it's the perfect destination for a family day out!

Te Haukaretu Park is home to a playground, duck pond, public toilet, space to picnic, and room to play. It's the perfect destination for family fun!

Playground

The playground has opportunities to swing, climb, slide, and play in a quiet and peaceful setting. 

ATV's, dirt bikes, motor bikes, and other motorised vehicles are not permitted on grass areas.

Picnic tables

Picnic tables, park benches, and plenty of open space makes it easy to picnic and play with the family at Te Haukaretu Park.

Public Toilets

Toilets are located within walking distance from the playground, they are open from dawn until dusk daily.

River Access

Te Awa Kairangi - Hutt River is within close walking distance from Te Haukaretu Park and is accessible by foot in several places. When swimming in Upper Hutt's rivers please remember to be river safe.

Duck Pond

Te Haukaretu Park is home to a large duck pond well populated with ducks and geese.

Please do not feed bread to the ducks and geese. Instead, if you wish to feed them, please feed them foods that are nutritious and delicious for them such as, cut seedless grapes, peas, oats and birdseed.

Active parental supervision around the duck pond is required at all times, please practice water safety.

Trails

Te Haukaretu Park is one of many entry points to the Hutt River Trail which runs from Petone to Upper Hutt. It is an easy scenic walk and cycle path which also allows access to the river for swimming, fishing and kayaking. For more information and maps visit Greater Wellington Regional Council.
