We usually check in with landowners about overhanging vegetation. This year, instead of an official assessment, we just want to take a moment to remind everyone how important it is to trim back shrubs, hedges, and trees.
Regretfully, due to extreme vandalism rendering the public toilet unrepairable, it has been removed for the foreseeable future.
A short distance from the CBD, Poet's Park is one of Upper Hutt's favourite open space parks. It is also an entry point to the Hutt River Trail.
Poet's Park sits alongside Te Awa Kairangi - Hutt River and is home to lots of open space, making it the perfect destination for outdoor recreation year-round!
Trails
Poet's Park is one of many entry points to the Hutt River Trail which runs from Petone to Upper Hutt. It is an easy scenic walk and cycle path which also allows access to the river for swimming, fishing and kayaking. For more information and maps visit Greater Wellington Regional Council.
Public Toilets
The public toilet formerly located near the car park has been removed for the foreseeable future after extreme vandalism destroyed it in late February 2020.
River access
There are several areas where you can access the river by foot. When swimming in Upper Hutt's rivers please remember to be river safe.
Please note that ATV's, dirt bikes, motor bikes, and all other motorised vehicles are not permitted on the grass areas.
Vehicle entrance to the park is located off River Road/SH2 between Whakatiki Street and Moonshine Road, Upper Hutt 5018 View Map
