Maidstone Park
A short walk from the CBD, Maidstone Park is Upper Hutt’s most central park.
Catering to all ages, Maidstone Park is made up of several unique features in one large park complex. Maidstone Park is home to the Maidstone Max Adventure Playground, a down hill mountain bike track, bush trails, a skate park, community sport clubrooms, sportsfields, space to picnic, and room to play. It's the perfect destination for a fun family day out!
Maidstone Max Adventure Playground
The playground refurbishment was completed in May 2021. The playground has a theme of imaginative or fantasy that all ages can relate to, being a recurring theme in popular culture. This is a theme that inspires free, unstructured play with less prescriptive play features, classic and timeless, harking back to the older style fort park but is still packed with modern play items and opportunities.
There is also real focus on accessible play for users of all abilities in this design, including specialist swings, other interactive features, and ramp access to the castle for anyone with limited mobility or using a wheelchair/push chair. This park also incorporates sand play, which we don’t have in any of our other parks, and musical play in the Bards Compass area.
Key features or the playground include:
- State of the art skate park
- Half basketball court
- Flying fox
- Castle fort
- Musical play
- Bike / Scooter pump track
- Sand play
- Swings
- Covered BBQ areas
Downhill Mountain Bike Track
FREE and open 24/7 year round (except for competition days).
Riders can access the track from the top of Seymour Grove. There is plenty of parking, a turning cycle, and a drop off point for shuttle runs.
The mountain bike track twists down the hill and exits through a mix of regenerating native and established beech forest.
The 1100m dedicated downhill mountain bike track should take intermediate to expert riders four to six minutes to ride. Less experienced riders will be challenged by the course and should expect to take between six and ten minutes.
All abilities will find challenge in the fun track that contains bermed corners that lead into jumps and drop-offs with alternatives for those who like to keep their tyres on the ground!
Bush Trails
Maidstone Park has the largest bush area located within our three main parks with several bush walks between the main park and Kingsley Heights. These tracks are quite steep in places and are not recommended for pushchairs, mobility scooters, or wheelchairs.
Skate Park
The skate park was upgraded to an enlarged state of the art park in May 2021.
Sports Fields
Maidstone Park is home to two sand carpet senior and three sand carpet junior (half and quarter size) rugby fields in winter.
The sand carpet fields have a higher fee to rent than standard soil fields.
Pétanque
Nestled in amongst the trees at Maidstone Park, you will find the revived Pétanque courts - home to Upper Hutt Pétanque.
The Club aims to promote the game of Pétanque for young and old.
Meetings: Tuesday 10:30am, Fri & Sun 1:30pm.
