Awa Kairangi Park

A short bike, bus, or drive from the CBD, or a short walk for residents of Totara Park, Awa Kairangi Park is one of Upper Hutt's premier suburban open space parks. It is also an entry point to the Hutt River Trail.

Awa Kairangi Park sits alongside Te Awa Kairangi - Hutt River and is home to lots of open space, community sport clubrooms, and fresh Upper Hutt air. By request, the park can be booked and marked for organised sport making it the perfect destination for both organised or casual outdoor recreation year-round!

Trails

Awa Kairangi Park is one of many entry points to the Hutt River Trail which runs from Petone to Upper Hutt. It is an easy scenic walk and cycle path which also allows access to the river for swimming, fishing and kayaking. For more information and maps visit Greater Wellington Regional Council.

Sport fields

Awa Kairangi Park is unmarked. The park can be booked and marked on request for a variety of organised sports. 

Public Toilets

The public toilets are located near the carpark, they are open from dawn until dusk.

River access

There are several areas where you can access Te Awa Kairangi - Hutt River by foot. When swimming in Upper Hutt's rivers please remember to be river safe.

Organised Events and Gatherings

Groups wishing to use this facility for an organised event, outing, field trip, school activity, large gathering etc. must submit a park booking request at least 3 weeks prior to the event.
