We usually check in with landowners about overhanging vegetation. This year, instead of an official assessment, we just want to take a moment to remind everyone how important it is to trim back shrubs, hedges, and trees.
As part of The Gardians campaign, we're launching a series of workshops.
Our first workshop is hosted by Allison Kingsford from Mahinga Kai.
‘Mahinga Kai’ Urban Farm is part of the 4abettercity charity. Mahinga Kai aims to provide employment for those who are struggling to find work and want to learn gardening skills. We sell our produce through our CSA (community supported agriculture) boxes. We are a regenerative farm so we are no till, we practice poly cropping (as opposed to mono cropping), only use natural fertilisers and we aim to work with nature to produce nutrient rich vegetables.
Come along as we briefly look at the whole garden ecosystem and the role of pollinators and how to attract them into our garden space. This workshop focuses on identifying the most common types of pollinators you'll find in your gardens and the plants that attract them. We will also look at some of the threats to pollinators and what we can do to make our gardens a safe and friendly space for them and why this is so important.
