Upper Hutt Civic Awards
The Upper Hutt Civic Awards are a celebration of those who dedicate their time and energy to making our community a better place.
These awards are given to individuals who have gone above and beyond in areas like community service, cultural affairs, education, recreation, environmental contributions, and youth activities.
Your nomination matters
Do you know someone who has made a real difference in Upper Hutt?
Nominating them for the Civic Award is a simple yet impactful way to show appreciation for their contributions. Whether they’ve volunteered in the community, inspired others, or led initiatives that have shaped our city, this is their moment to be recognised.
Categories of recognition:
- Community service
- Cultural affairs
- Education
- Recreation
- Environmental contributions
- Youth activities
Award recipients receive a certificate and a medal presented by the Mayor at a special ceremony.
How to nominate
Nominations are now open and the deadline for this year’s nominations is 6 June 2025.
Nominees must be residents of Upper Hutt who have contributed to the community through voluntary services.
Please note individuals who have already received public recognition (e.g., New Zealand Honours) or a previous Civic Award are not eligible for another award.

In person
Submit your completed form in person.
About the nomination process
The Civic Awards selection panel is made up of the Mayor and two Upper Hutt City Councillors and they will review all nominations and decide on the award recipients.
You will be notified whether your nomination has been successful.
If your nominee is unsuccessful, you can submit the nomination in future years.
Why nominate?
This is an opportunity to celebrate the quiet heroes in our community—those who work tirelessly behind the scenes without seeking recognition to make changes that make lives better for our community.
Your nomination will inspire others to give back to the community and create a culture of appreciation and service in Upper Hutt. Help us continue a legacy of service in Upper Hutt by nominating someone who has made a difference.
The deadline for this year’s nominations is 6 June 2025.
Nominate now and celebrate a local changemaker today!
